RV Buying Season

Why Winter and Spring are the Best Times to Shop for RVs

Many people think summer is the prime season for RV shopping, but savvy buyers know that winter and early spring offer unique advantages. During this time, manufacturers roll out new models, dealerships clear last year’s inventory, and buyers have a chance to score excellent deals. Here's why this season—often called "Buying Season"—is ideal for finding your perfect RV.

Why Timing Matters

If you’re planning to buy an RV, knowing when to shop can make a big difference. Both RVs my family purchased were during this window, and each time, we left the dealership with a great deal and confident we made the right choice.

The season, typically between December and March, provides a perfect mix of factors for anyone looking to purchase or upgrade their RV.

Great Deals on the Newest Models

As winter sets in, RVs are winterized and stored, leaving time to daydream about upcoming adventures. During this quieter season, manufacturers showcase their latest models, offering buyers the chance to explore and compare cutting-edge features.

Often, these new models come with promotions or special pricing, making it a win-win: buyers get the latest innovations, while manufacturers get their RVs on the road, turning proud owners into ambassadors through word of mouth and everyday use.

Timing is everything which is why we took advantage of Buying Season to purchase our first and second RV. Here we are with our second and current RV, the Dutchmen Astoria 3173RLP.

Deals on Last Year's Inventory

For those looking for incredible savings, dealerships are eager to clear out previous model-year inventory to make space for new arrivals. Many times, the differences between last year’s and this year’s models are minimal, so buyers can save big while still getting a brand-new RV.

By timing it right, you can snag a great deal and have your RV ready for spring and summer adventures.

Maximize Trade-In Value

Dreaming of upgrading your RV? Late winter and early spring are perfect for trading in your old unit. With lots filling up with new models, dealerships are motivated to offer generous trade-in bonuses.

My wife and I upgraded from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel after attending the Florida RV SuperShow in January. We couldn’t resist the trade-in offer and special pricing we received on a Dutchmen Astoria 3173RLP Fifth Wheel. It was a seamless experience that left us thrilled with our new RV.

RV Shows

As winter fades and spring blossoms, RV shows and expos pop up nationwide. These events are fantastic for comparing models, learning from experts, and connecting with other RVers.

One of our favorites is the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa, held every January. With hundreds of RVs to explore, great weather, delicious food, and entertainment for the whole family, it’s an event we recommend—even if you’re just browsing.

We found our dream fifth wheel at this show, taking advantage of show-specific pricing and saving enough to splurge on accessories and upgrades.

A Buyer’s Market

Winter and early spring are truly a buyer’s market. Fewer people are shopping, so there’s less competition, more room for negotiation, and a better chance of securing a deal that works for you.

Compare this to summer, when high demand often leads to increased prices and limited inventory. Shopping in the off-season is not only cost-effective but also far less stressful.

Fifth Wheels

This camping trailer affectionately nicknamed a “Fiver” is a favorite of many, especially those taking extended trips or traveling full time in their RV. The prominent overhang resting above the tow truck bed is frequently employed as a bedroom suite, or, more recently, a living room or even a kitchen.
