The Ultimate Race Weekend Experience

RVing at a Racetrack
The Ultimate Race Weekend Experience

Why RVing at a Racetrack is the Best Way to Enjoy a Race Weekend

Who doesn’t love a weekend of fun without the worries of traffic? That is only one of the reasons why my wife and I feel that RVing at a racetrack is one of the most immersive and exciting ways to experience a race weekend.

From being right in the middle of the action to meeting fellow racing fans and enjoying a unique camping setup, RVing at the track has a way of turning a race weekend into an unforgettable adventure.

Why You Should RV at a Racetrack for a Race Weekend

  1. Unbeatable Proximity to the Action

There’s nothing like waking up just steps from the heart of the race. RVing at the track puts you in prime proximity to everything—whether it’s the pit area, the stands, or the rowdy infield. From morning coffee to quick trips back to your RV, everything is close and convenient. You’ll hear the roar of the engines, smell the rubber, and catch the neighbor’s grill sizzling—immersing you fully in the race day energy without worrying about parking or commuting.

Pro Tip: Arrive a day or two early to get settled and explore. Many tracks offer fan zones, infield activities, and behind-the-scenes access for RV campers before the races start.

  2. Tailgating Atmosphere Like No Other

Racetrack RV campgrounds are social hubs packed with energy. Everyone’s there for the same reason, creating an incredible sense of community. You’ll find fans grilling, playing games, and sharing racing stories.

For example, at the ROVAL race weekend, we connected with amazing people, enjoyed live music, survived a mechanical bull (yes, really), and shared campfire stories with friends. It felt like a giant family gathering—with race cars in the background.

Pro Tip: Bring extra chairs, outdoor games, and a grill setup to easily connect with neighbors and make the most of the tailgating experience.

  3. A Home Base for Comfort and Convenience

Having your RV at the track combines the thrill of the race with the comfort of home. Forget hotels, restaurants, or traffic—your RV provides a private bathroom, a kitchen for meals, and a cozy bed waiting for you at the end of each day.

During one race weekend, we even had an RV technician fix a slide issue right at our site, courtesy of THOR’s raceway support program. They covered up to $500 in service charges, and it all happened while we enjoyed our coffee.

Pro Tip: Check if your track or THOR offers on-site RV services—they can save you time and stress during the weekend.

  4. A Front-Row Seat to All the Fun

Race weekends offer more than just races—fan zones, driver meet-and-greets, and interactive experiences are all within easy reach for RV campers. From pre-race concerts to pit crew action and autographs, the RV lifestyle puts you at the center of it all.

At the ROVAL weekend, we even got to chat with NASCAR legend Bobby Labonte during a pre-race drive, an unforgettable experience only available to fully immersed fans.

Pro Tip: Look for camping packages that include exclusive access to driver appearances or special fan areas for an unforgettable weekend.

  1. Flexibility to Arrive Early and Stay Late

RVing gives you the flexibility to avoid traffic and fully enjoy the event. Arriving on Thursday and leaving on Monday made all the difference for us. We explored the track at a relaxed pace, mingled with RVers, and avoided the post-race gridlock. Watching the exodus of headlights while enjoying dinner from our site made our extended stay feel like the ultimate win.

Pro Tip: Plan to arrive a couple of days before the big race and stay a day or two after to soak up the atmosphere without the rush.

  2. The Unique Thrill of Infield Camping

For an intense, round-the-clock race experience, infield camping is unmatched. While we opted for a quieter campground nearby, visiting the infield gave us a taste of the high-energy environment where the celebration never stops. It’s a buzzing, electrifying mini-city of racing fans who live and breathe the sport.

Pro Tip: If you want to enjoy the infield energy but prefer a quieter night’s sleep, stay nearby and visit during the day.

Class C Motorhomes

Class C motorhomes offer outdoor experiences for larger families at a lower price point than Class A Motorcoaches. Recognizable by their raised sleeping or storage areas which extend over the cab of the RV, Class C Motorhomes offer more living space than Class B Motorhomes but are smaller in size and can offer better gas mileage than Class A Motorcoaches.
