LOCATION: NORTH CAROLINA & TENNESSEE
01 GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens mid-April and closes late October.
Reservation
Opens six months in advance.
Tip
Unlike most national parks, entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is free.
LOCATION: ARIZONA
02 GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK
Season
South Rim is open year-round; North Rim opens mid-May and closes late October.
Reservation
Individual campsites are released on a six-month rolling basis, group campsites are released on a 12-month rolling basis.
Tip
NPS campgrounds in the park do not have RV hook-ups, but Trailer Village has full hook-ups.
LOCATION: COLORADO
03 ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens mid-May and closes late September.
Reservation
Opens six months in advance.
Tip
Vehicles over 25 feet and those pulling trailers are prohibited on Old Fall River Road.
LOCATION: UTAH
04 ZION NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens mid-March and closes late November.
Reservation
Reservations are open year-round and can be made six months in advance.
Tip
To ensure that emergency vehicles can access the trailheads, the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive will close once all legal parking spaces are full—plan accordingly from December to February.
LOCATION: WYOMING & MONTANA
05 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Season
Opens mid-May and closes late September
Reservation
Opens one year in advance.
Reservations for Summer 2020 opened May 1, 2019 (likely already full).
Tip
July and August are the only two months when all facilities, roads, and services are open.
LOCATION: CALIFORNIA
06 YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens early April and closes late November.
Reservation
Opens on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. PST.
Reservations are available in blocks of one month, up to five months in advance.
Tip
El Portal Road and Big Oak Flat Road have tunnels, so double check vehicle height restrictions.
LOCATION: MAINE
07 ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens mid-May and closes mid-October.
Reservation
Individual campsites are released on a six-month rolling basis, group campsites are released on a seven-month rolling basis.
Tip
Certain trails are closed during the spring and summer to protect endangered nesting peregrines.
LOCATION: WYOMING
08 GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens early May and closes late October.
Reservation
Advanced reservations required for group camping and RV parks only; reservations should be made at leas six months in advance.
Tip
Campgrounds provide bear boxes at each site for food, garbage, and other scented items.
LOCATION: WASHINGTON
09 OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens late March and closes late October.
Reservation
Individual campsites are released on a six-month rolling basis, group campsites are released on a 12-month rolling basis.
Advanced reservations are required for group camping and select campgrounds only: Kalaloch and Sol Duc.
Tip
Olympic is one of few parks that allows pets to explore a limited number of trails with their owners.
LOCATION: MONATANA
10 GLACIER NATIONAL PARK
Season
Open year-round, but peak season opens late May and closes mid-September.
Reservation
Individual campsites are released on a six-month rolling basis, group campsites are released on a 12-month rolling basis.
Reservations must be made at least three days in advance.
Tip
Vehicles over 21 feet long, 10 feet high, and 8 feet wide are restricted from Going-to-the-Sun-Road.
