Ben Hicks is a photographer who integrates his work with the elements of nature, often shooting in the water, and uses his images as a platform for environmental awareness. His gallery and studio are based in Boca Raton. Ben, along with his wife Cristina, son Carson, daughter Serena, and dog Luna, travels the world in search of the next adventure—RVing, surfing, mountain biking, and more. He built his first overland truck in 2002 but has been camping since childhood, and his family enjoys exploring even more in their Airstream Flying Cloud 25FB.
Family style! I’ve evolved from a single adventure-loving tent camper into an RV family man. Our family always makes sure to bring along our toys for the ultimate camping adventures. From surfing to biking to paddleboarding, it’s important to us that we bring the right gear!
Being out in nature or underwater! Riding my bike on trails, surfing along a wave—anything that gets me outside and moving.
Boondocking has long been a favorite of mine for both its affordability and access to nature’s wonder right outside your doorstep. When I was younger, it was my primary form of camping because I couldn’t afford anything else, so you could say it has a special place in my heart.
National Forest or Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas are ideal for boondocking. However, as I’ve gotten older and become more of a family man, “supported” sites have been great for fulfilling the needs of our crew.
It may sound cliche, but I was told many years ago to take your time going from one destination to the next. Slower is faster!
Knowing the planet has more amazing places than I will ever have time to explore, I try to determine what exactly I want to get out of a location before actually deciding on one. Embracing and exposing myself and my family to the cultures we experience are very important to me.

Meat Cove, Nova Scotia
If you’re looking for something more thrilling, this isolated town is not the easiest to get to (which is part of the fun if you ask us!), but it offers the opportunity to camp on a massive cliff at the northernmost point of Nova Scotia!
Gothic, Colorado
Bordered by amazing peaks and some of the best mountain biking and hiking in the West, Gothic is highly underrated and an absolute must!
Guanacaste Coast, Costa Rica
For a grassroots camping experience, we love that there are spots in the region where you can just pull up, ask a restaurant nearby who owns the land, pay the owner and stay right on the coast! Truly the best way to experience the area and get to know the culture.
Gamble Rogers State Park, Florida
This park allows you to camp on the edge of the beach, which we consider a “hidden gem” because these camping experiences are rather difficult to find in the U.S.!
Moab, Utah
Moab offers a plethora of activities for outdoor enthusiasts and the campsites offer some of the most insane views.
Yosemite National Park
Say no less, it is a wonder of the world.
