A Tour of Renee Tilby's Jayco Jay Flight Travel Trailer RV
Take a tour of Renee Tilby's Jayco Jay Flight travel trailer.
As a photographer passionate about storytelling and environmental awareness, purchasing an RV was a big decision for our family. We wanted something that would allow us to create lifelong memories while staying connected to nature.
Like everyone, our RV experience is unique to our lifestyle and constantly evolving. Our family of four, plus our dog, lives in a beautiful home in sunny Boca Raton, Florida—but we love to travel and explore as much as possible! Here’s an in-depth look at how we adventure with our 2017 Airstream Flying Cloud 25FB.
Coming from an overland camping setup, we needed something spacious enough for our family while still being easy to drive, store, and park. After spending three years exploring different RV options, we decided an Airstream was the best fit.
Initially, we considered a Class B, as my parents have one and love it. However, we wanted the flexibility to explore from our campsite without being tied to a motorhome. A travel trailer gave us the best of both worlds.
Airstream’s commitment to sustainability (#KeepItBeautiful) also reassured me that we were making a responsible choice. Since I keep my vehicles for at least 10 years, I wanted something durable—and Airstreams are built to last a lifetime. We found our 2017 25FB used from an older couple who had barely used it—making it the perfect find!
Our tow vehicle is a 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid TRD Pro, previously our overland setup. It features 100Ah Battle Born batteries powered by roof-mounted solar panels, allowing us to boondock for days. The slide-out fridge makes it a perfect support vehicle for our Airstream adventures.
We opted for the 25-foot layout because it gave us a queen bed and enough space for our two young children to sleep in the dinette/couch area as they grow. Since my wife and I are 6’1” and 5’11”, having enough headroom was essential. Plus, it fits perfectly in our side driveway when not in use!
One of our first upgrades was installing a Torklift hitch on the back for a bike rack. We chose an RV-rated Yakima rack and stick to the two-bike option to keep weight and length manageable.
Comfort was key! We leave the dinette converted into two beds/one large couch, and since we typically eat outside, this setup works well for us.
We prefer to cook outside whenever possible, especially meals that create heavy cleanup or strong odors. Our Weber Traveler grill is a must-have—it slides neatly into the truck bed when traveling.
Our typical campsite setup includes:
Inside, we set up the kids' beds, which double as a couch for movie nights with our Roku, Apple TV, or DVD player.
We started our Airstream adventures in October 2024, and we’ve already been on three amazing trips:
And we have so many more places planned!
This spring, we’re upgrading to a solar lithium battery system, making us even more versatile for off-grid camping. I’m still learning the ins and outs of owning a trailer, but I enjoy understanding every moving part so I can tackle any issues that come our way.
This camping trailer affectionately nicknamed a “Fiver” is a favorite of many, especially those taking extended trips in their RV. The prominent overhang resting above the tow truck bed is frequently employed as a bedroom suite, or, more recently, a living room or even a kitchen.
